A Strange Reunion is the final job in The Cold Heart of Hate of the game Sly Cooper and the Thievius Raccoonus.
Walkthrough[]
There are three stages to beating Clockwerk. The first two stages are completed by using the jetpack and its cannons, which are both controlled with
and fired with
. Note that dying during any phase means you will have to restart the battle from the beginning.
First stage[]
Sly will fly around Clockwerk in a set looping-route via a rail-shooter-setting, and the latter will fire several plasma blasts in a row; dodge them by moving to the side. Whenever Carmelita strikes him with her gun, a part of his body will have electricity briefly coating it while he takes a VERY small amount of damage; you must shoot said part of him in order to deal actual notable damage to him. If not enough damage is dealt, this process will repeat for a longer period of time. The fastest way to beat Clockwerk is by only shooting four of his body parts.
Second stage[]
The next part of the fight has you flying in front of Clockwerk as he keeps himself afloat with back-up thrusters. He must then be dodging electric rings by flying inside of them. Pay attention to which launcher (left, center, or right) they are fired from, then carefully fly through them to avoid taking damage. After each volley, Carmelita will strike him as usual, allowing you once more to shoot the vulnerable part of Clockwerk's body as highlighted by the electricity.
Third stage[]
At this point, you no longer have the jetpack; instead landing on a large array of debris, which you must platform across to reach Clockwerk as he is getting repaired. However, each set of debris still has functioning security systems, which, if triggered, will cause various mechanisms to activate to make reaching him that much harder.
Jump from one piece of debris to the next, avoiding Clockwerk's automated defensive shots (which can move through objects). Rail walk, spire jump, and sidle across the lava pool, then dodge the lasers, but you may also land on the laser emitters using the Spire Jump. Climb down the pipe, still avoiding the lasers, then climb towards Clockwerk to jump upon his tail feathers along his back to reach his head.
As soon as his head turns around, his HP bar appears and you can then swing your cane repeatedly to destroy it . At this point, he cannot fight back, though his head if you move too close to it can bump you away into the lava.
Behind the scenes[]
During the first segment, when Bentley is going over the jetpack controls, Sly's model is facing towards the camera before Clockwerk appears (which causes him to automatically turn around and face away from the camera onwards); this causes all rocket shots initially fired beforehand to essentially be fired backwards from Sly's back.
Carmelita's pistol can also as aforementioned, inflict a VERY small amount of damage on Clockwerk each time she connects a shot. The spot she also shoots at never changes however until Sly manages to damage it himself with his jetpack rockets.
Carmelita's model in the first phase can also be seen standing on a far off cliff doing her usual fist-shaking idle animation, if one bothers to extend it long enough given the camera cannot be changed from its rail-shooter perspective.
Solely in this boss battle, Carmelita during the starting dialogue also refers to her ammunition as "missiles" in the English script, implying that she's using a different firearm despite still using her signature shock pistol to aid in damaging Clockwerk. This also applies to the HD re-dub in the Japanese versions; only the original PS2 Japanese version has her say she's using her shock pistol (via the name "shock gun").
