Ghosts were the souls of dead animals found in Prague, in "A Tangled Web" of Sly 2: Band of Thieves.

During the episode, a war was ensuing between Neyla and The Contessa in the Contessa's castle. The ghosts were held 'prisoner' in the tomb of the Evil Wolf Priestess. Sly freed the ghosts, captured them again (Bentley modified Sly's binocucom to capture ghosts via the camera), then set them down Neyla's HQ chimney so that she would think it was an attack from the Contessa, which would pursue her to hire more mercenaries. These ghosts were unknown in species.
