Hi Shrev. Apologies for disturbing you.
I've seen a few pages here and there on the wiki with bad, low quality images on them. Specifically, images that are extremely blurry or that appear to have been taken with a camera phone so there is an awful glare on them, they're not focused, you get the point. To be fair, they're probably the best that the users could do at the time (so no offense intended to them when I say that) but I'm going to see what I can do about getting some better quality ones.
One question though - should I replace the files in question or should I upload my ones seperately then add them to relevant pages? From my personal experience, the preference on which to do varies from one wiki to the next so I figured I'd inquire about it before I got started.
If I may offer a tip, it's good practice to screenshot images from video walkthroughs from YouTube, particularly videos that have no other features such as logos and stuff.
Longplay videos like this are best because they support the best quality. By right clicking twice on the player, it will allow you to snap the image, though this only works in the Firefox browser. This is what I do for this wiki, since I have no other means of getting good images.
As far as replacing images, you should typically only replace (overwrite) an image if it's the same exact image under the same filename. Otherwise, you must upload it separately. Hope this clears up any concerns you have.
Those walkthroughs were actually going to be my sources anyway. They're the best quality Sly videos I've been able to find after checking a couple of channels. I was really asking as to how to proceed when I come across images like the ones here, for example, would it be better to just replace these files to keep it simple or upload my own versions and replace them on the article? Personally, I'd name these files differently anyway so identical filenames are not an issue but now I think I know how I'll approach it. Thanks for the help, Rob (hope you don't mind me calling you that). I'll get started later tonight.
^ Essentially what Rob up there said. Two main things that are important with images on the wiki are (1) being named properly and (2) being categorized properly (assuming the images are of good quality in the first place). Unless the filename of the original is garbled or nonsensical, it's best to upload over the existing image.
If it's an identical filename, the new image will just show up as a revision on the old image, while the newest image will be shown on articles, posts, where it's used, etc. so no harm done there
I'm familiar with how it works. I've run other wikis in the past so I was wondering if you guys had a particular/preferred way of doing things, because I know I did when I was in your position on my wikis and to make sure that my additions are up to acceptable standard sooner rather than later to make things easier in the long term. I hate feeling I've added unnecessary hassle, if that makes sense, which is why I've been checking things with you first. It's more just me trying to be courteous than anything else, although I do appreciate the little step-by-step guides you've been giving me these past few weeks. They've been helpful in getting reacquainted with everything. It's been a while since I've been an active user on a wiki so thank you.
And apologies if I've given you the wrong impression that I'm a completely new user who doesn't have experience with editing, etc., I should have been more transparent and given you context earlier. Sorry about that.
Oh no problem. My bad, I did indeed think you were new to wiki editing, hence my comments here and there. I certainly didn't mean to talk down to you, and I hope it wasn't giving off that impression. I appreciate your courtesy.
Oh don't worry about it. You didn't talk down to me or give that impression at all and as I said, you have genuinely helped me get back into wiki editing so no harm done. For what it's worth, it just means you're good at what you do. Thanks again.
Sorry to bother you but I noticed something that I wanted to bring up. Might be nothing but felt it was worth mentioning just in case.
In A Cold Alliance, the gang returns to the Kunlun Mountains to recruit the Panda King and that's where the first job takes place. And after they talk to him at his shrine, it immediately cuts to the village where Tsao has his palace. Now here on the wiki it's said Tsao's village is also in the Kunlun Mountains but I'm not sure that's actually the case.
I went back to the cutscene in Sly 1 where Sly explains Panda King's background to make sure I wasn't missing any details and there, it says that the Kunlun Mountains are situated to the west of China (which is true). However, in Sly 3, it's stated that Tsao is a ruler from the northern mountains, which to me, indicates that where he has power is not where the gang approach Panda King and is at least a fair distance away. It's also mentioned that Panda King was exiled by Tsao after Jing King was abducted. Now while it's not stated exactly where he was exiled from, if he was exiled from the Kunlun Mountains, why is he still there when the gang comes looking for him? Whether Tsao's men are guarding him or not, it's not much of an exile if he's still in the area.
Maybe I'm stretching a little bit and I probably am but it was just something I thought about when I started the episode today and when I looked into it a little, I felt I should get a second opinion. I hope you don't mind me coming to you with this. Thanks!
Hey there, not a problem! That's actually a good idea, I hadn't really thought about it myself but your logic makes sense. The only counterargument I could think of (ignoring the facts that the Kunlun Mountains being in the west and Tsao rules in the north), is perhaps Panda King resides on the border or fringe of the Kunlun Mountains (purely speculating at this point). I can't quite recall, did the Panda King self-exile or was he expressly exiled by Tsao? Either way, this is worth looking into. Good find!
Thank you. I never really thought about it before either tbh before I read the information here. That's what got me thinking.
I don't think it was self-exile, in fact I'd say it's highly unlikely. Panda King never goes into detail about it, it's kind of just stated then moving on. However, Tsao makes some comments to Sly during their battle in Laptop Retrieval, which I just completed and with your question in mind, here are his exact words: "Once I "convinced" her father to take up meditation, she was ripe for the picking."
I read that as one of two ways: A, Tsao abducted Jing King and simply exiled Panda King, so pretty straight forward or B, which I think might be more likely, Tsao went the extra mile and used his black magic to place the Panda King in the trance the gang finds him in at the beginning of the episode. It's not like that sort of thing is unheard of in the Sly games. To back that up further, two of Tsao's tiger guards can be seen patrolling around the shrine where Panda King is meditating, which makes it seen like his little meditative retreat wasn't completely voluntary.

Hello I'm inviting you to the Somewhat wiki, here' the link http://somewhat.wikia.com/wiki/SomeWhat_Wiki. It is a friendly site where you edit/create pages about already made up characters and make their backstorys comical. Now go on the link I shared, thanks.
Well, I confirmed through email with Prima Games (who now own BradyGames) that it is indeed official. If you read my blog post on the subject, I speculate on how the name was chosen. But speculation is only that. Maybe Sucker Punch did actually release some info way back in 2002/2003 calling him Conner, but unless I can get Sucker Punch to respond to an email, we may never know.
Just wondering what you would think about changing the edit button. I really like the Jak and Daxter wikis setup, and I got the code from JakHimself (I think it was him) in case you're interested. It would move the edit and talk buttons to the right side of the page though, so it may take a little bit to get used to.
I put it into use on another (essentially pointless) wiki of mine, here.
I actually had to remove it for now. There were a few problems that I just can't fix.
For example, the page count is removed, and while I can easily add it back, it overlaps the talk and edit buttons on many resolutions. Also, it aligns all articles to left side of the talk button, so there is a large empty space on the right side of every article. I'll talk to Jak Himself to see if he might know how to fix those things, but otherwise, it just messes with the flow.
In fact, the best thing would be if the button stay in the exact same place that they already are, but their skin looks different, though I'm unsure if that's possible.
Just letting you know that, if a certain "secondary" section (Trivia in particular), is too large, I'll be giving it a subpage of it's own, similar to what we do with large galleries. It will mostly be on pages like Sly Cooper and similar.
If you have a problem with this, you know where to reach me. (You know, right below this message.)
The fan-fic wiki has went...dead. Well, UN-dead would be more accurate, as in there very little being done there. Not just that, Soul, Mole, and Blue Lighting (I can never forget her...) amongus others have went more or less off line, so not only is there little traffic, there is also no mods, there is only two- three people plus me who even check in. Because of this, I need your help.
