Sly Cooper Wiki

Shadow Power, also called Invisibility, is a power-up that allows Sly Cooper to disappear from the visibility of enemies. It was first obtained in Sly Cooper and the Thievius Raccoonus and has made appearances in the following two games, as a safe power-up in Sly 2: Band of Thieves, and a ThiefNet power-up in Sly 3: Honor Among Thieves.

History[]

Shadow Power was created by Slytunkhamen Cooper as a means of stealing from corrupt pharaohs. It originally completely restricted movement, forcing the user to ride conveyor belts as a means of movement, or to just stand still while an enemy passed. It was later altered by Huckleberry Cooper to allow the user to move, albeit slowly, while invisible. Both forms of the technique were documented in the Thievius Raccoonus.

Sly Cooper learned the technique after defeating Mz. Ruby and retrieving her section of the Thievius Raccoonus. He used it in China to sneak past the Panda King's security systems, most notably during the mission "The Unseen Foe." In Sly 2, the only permutation of Shadow Power available was one equivalent to Huckleberry Cooper's alteration, in that it allowed Sly to slowly walk while using it. It was obtained from the safe in "Anatomy for Disaster." In Sly 3, Shadow Power was a pair of ThiefNet power-ups. Level 1 was identical to the technique from Sly 2, whereas level 2 allowed completely unrestricted movement, lending Sly the ability to run, jump and even pickpocket while invisible.

While using Shadow Power, bumping into or attacking a guard will alert them and deactivate the technique. You cannot reactivate it while detected.

Gameplay[]

Level 1[]

Level 1 of Shadow Power allows Sly to walk only while invisible. If he bumps into a guard however, he will detect him and attack, and the move is not usable while in combat. Only this level of Shadow Power is available in Band of Thieves. Huckleberry Cooper's upgrade in Sly Cooper and the Thievius Raccoonus is the equivalent of this version.

Level 2[]

This version of Shadow Power is available in Honor Among Thieves in addition to Level 1. It allows Sly to pickpocket, attack, and run while invisible. Like with the previous verions, if he bumps into or attack an enemy, they will detect him, and he cannot trigger the move while in combat.

Behind the scenes[]

In the Sly Cooper and the Thievius Raccoonus E3 preview alpha, Shadow Power was obtained from the fourth vault instead of after defeating a boss.

While Shadow Power does not make a return in Sly Cooper: Thieves in Time, early footage showed that Rioichi Cooper was able to briefly turn invisible while preparing to use his Leaping Dragon technique. This effect was removed in the final release.
