The Trigger Bomb is a remote detonated version of Bentley's regular bombs. In Sly 2 and 3, instead of dropping them where he stands, this power-up allows Bentley to throw the bomb in an arc anywhere within a certain distance from where he is standing. When a trigger bomb is thrown, the assigned button used to throw it is the same one used to detonate it. Trigger bombs will automatically explode if they are thrown into water, attacked or if Bentley moves too far away from them. It does not drain any energy from the Gadget Meter when used.
Any enemy within the blast of the trigger bomb will be affected the same way they would be from the normal bomb; they either become dazed or defeated, depending on their health and whether or not they have been knocked out via Bentley's sleep darts. If Bentley blows up enemies from afar by throwing bombs at them, they would become alert, but will not notice his presence as long as he remains out of their field of view. This essentially means that Bentley can easily defeat enemies through repeated uses of the Trigger Bomb without worrying about retaliation. With its remote detonation, the Trigger Bomb can be placed as a trap for unsuspecting or pursuing guards to walk on.
In Sly 2, Bentley's Trigger Bombs (and regular bombs) are as strong as Murray's fists, being able to defeat both rooftop and flashlight guards in two hits, with each hit also stunning the guard in the process. In Sly 3, the Trigger Bomb is now capable of defeating any enemies (excluding Carmelita) in one hit, including Bentley himself.
In Thieves in Time, the Trigger Bomb power-up automatically makes all bombs trigger bombs once it is purchased, and is detonated by pressing . If the Multi Bomb power-up has been purchased and multiple bombs are in play, holding detonates them simultaneously.
Meanwhile, the ability to throw bombs in an arc from a distance has been made a default move accessible by holding and pressing to throw the bomb.
Unlike in Sly 2 and 3, enemies that get blown up from afar will be immediately alerted to Bentley's presence and will pursue him.
